Everyone appreciates the essential role that a decent, well-paying job plays in providing us with the basic necessities and comforts in life. However, most would agree that our work provides us with so much more than a weekly paycheck. It is one of the primary ways we define ourselves as adults. Work provides structure and meaning to our daily lives, with opportunities to learn and grow, interaction with others, and the opportunity to develop friendships that we can also enjoy outside of the workplace.
Employment is pursued on an individual basis. Vocational Counselors work carefully to find jobs which match personal preferences and abilities; identify the specific support needs that might be required; and arrange that those supports come from supervisors and/or co-workers on the job. Regular, ongoing contact is maintained with both the employer and employee as needed throughout employment.
